Jesus Christ during the Sermon on the Mount taught the disciples about the blessings awaiting those who have been persecuted for righteousness sake, and the blessings awaiting those who will be persecuted for his sake. Christ makes us understand that once we take up the identity of Christ, we can expect to be reviled against and persecuted.
